Legacy Medical Foundation

The Millinocket Regional Hospital Board of Trustees established Legacy Medical Foundation in 2020. Although the newest member of the MRH family, our Foundation continues a nearly 70-year tradition of private support for patient care, wellness and maintaining quality of life in our region. Legacy Medical Foundation defines who we are and how we care for one another.

The contributions received by the Foundation are managed and disbursed by the Foundation Board of Directors, who ensure the monies are used for local health care purposes and ensure access to quality and compassionate health care, close to home.

Establishing your Legacy

Explore opportunities to enhance the programs and services provided by Millinocket Regional Hospital for you, your family and friends, and for guests to our region. We welcome contributions of cash, financial securities, in-kind assets/services or legacy gifts. Your support may be tax-deductible.

Patients served by MRH or through its many outreach programs are direct beneficiaries of contributions made by caring individuals, organizations, businesses or grant funders.

Annual Gifts

Annual giving benefits family, friends, neighbors and visitors who use Millinocket Regional Hospital services. Every gift helps the hospital provide access to quality and compassionate care, close to home.

Our annual giving program runs from July 1 through June 30.

Capital Campaigns

A capital campaign is a concerted effort to support a large project, such as building construction or the purchase of new equipment, that requires significant, substantial financial backing.

Building for Generations Capital Campaign

In 2018, the Millinocket Regional Hospital took on its largest fundraising effort to date to address the need for improved cancer care resources in the Katahdin area and renovate space for oncology services. Out of this initial effort the Building for Generations capital campaign – Phase 1 was established.

Once completed, the new space will house the current oncology services and prepare for a broader commitment to cancer care; allowing us to better serve an aging population and the increasingly diversified family population of the region. The MRH Board of Trustees recognized the magnitude of this project and have established the Legacy Medical Foundation to formalize grassroots fundraising for this project and invite ongoing philanthropic support for the hospital.

Legacy Endowment Funds

Consider a perpetual fund in your name with a minimum gift of $5,000 and ensure a sound future for Millinocket Regional Hospital. A named endowment fund is far-reaching and offers lasting financial resources because the income is generated through careful investment management. Endowments enable the hospital to advance new developments and programs; knowing that permanent resources are available. We will work with you to establish an endowment fund description that becomes a binding commitment to perpetuate your care for others.

Planned Giving

A planned gift commitment provides an opportunity to make a significant gift in the future while maintaining current financial responsibilities.  Planned giving can come in many forms including bequests, endowment funds and charitable gift annuities.

Legacy Bequests

Everyone can leave a lasting legacy. Gifts through your estate allow you to formalize a legacy gift in support of Millinocket Regional Hospital; you may specify an amount or a percentage of your estate to Legacy Medical Foundation. We are available to work with you to ensure that your plan reflects your wishes.

Bequest wording you may consider “(Upon my death) I give and bequeath to Legacy Medical Foundation, Millinocket, ME, (the sum of $___ or ___%) to support its exempt purposes (insert MRH, name of program, service or project).”

Legacy Planned Gifts/Charitable Gift Annuities

Planned giving affords you the opportunity to formalize estate planning, retain income with tax benefits, increase income for yourself and/or your beneficiaries and realize estate and capital gains tax savings.

There are many charitable giving options to consider. Consult with your financial advisors on the best way to prepare an estate gift strategy that fits your unique needs. We’re here to help.

Signature Fundraising Events & Sponsorship

Legacy Medical Foundation connects the community to the Hospital through signature events and activities. Your sponsorship and participation show you care. Time honored signature events include health fairs, golf tournaments, tree lighting and some new projects scheduled for the upcoming year. Check back often for information on upcoming events!

Honoring Your Legacy

Donors are the heart of our organization.  They provide us the means to preserve the legacy of Millinocket Regional Hospital and, in turn, we take great pride in preserving and honoring the legacy of our donors.

Partners for Life – Annual Giving

Our partners may be individuals, businesses, corporations or grant funders who provide annual support of $1,000 or more.  The Partners for Life tableau is prominently displayed in our hospital, presented on our website and through social media.

The Bateau Society – Giving Five-Consecutive Years

Gifts of all types for five consecutive years are enrolled in The Bateau Society named for the rugged and reliable watercraft, an ingenious hybrid design – a cross between boat and canoe – used by the early founders to traverse this region’s unspoiled rivers, streams, and lakes to explore the back country of Maine. The Bateau Society embodies their tenacity and perseverance that today empowers a new generation of patient care at MRH.

Mount Ktaahn Founders Society – Legacy Gifts

All legacy gifts through the Foundation enroll benefactors in our prestigious Mount Ktaahn Founders Society. Maine’s “Greatest Mountain” was named by indigenous people of this region, the Penobscot Indians.  It has served as the provocative backdrop for Millinocket Regional Hospital since our founding in 1955.  As a member of our Mount Ktaahn Founders Society you’ll be recognized for your vision,  invited to an exclusive semi-annual gathering, meet esteemed members of the hospital medical staff and administration, and share in presentations on health advances in medicine.

Please tell us when you have established a bequest or if you have a planned gift established to support Millinocket Regional Hospital, so we can include you with other forward-thinking benefactors in our Mount Ktaahn Founders Society.

Tribute Gifts

Remember and honor loved ones and friends.

Consider “a gift to Legacy Medical Foundation in lieu of gifts/flowers” to show you care.

Honorary gifts are a thoughtful way to recognize the special care a patient has received or to celebrate an  important occasion – birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement, holiday.  When an honor or memorial gift is received, we send a note of gratitude to the appropriate contact on your behalf!

Philanthropy through the Legacy Medical Foundation supporting Millinocket Regional Hospital is based on voluntary action for the common good of our hospital. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life.

To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the causes they are asked to support, we strictly abide by our Donor Bill of Rights.
