Endocrinology

The endocrine system is made up of the pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid, pineal gland, hypothalamus, adrenal and pituitary glands, ovaries, testes, and any other organs that recognize, respond to or metabolize hormones.  These organs located throughout your body create and release hormones, which regulate various bodily functions including metabolism, blood pressure, growth and development, emotions, mood, sexual function, and even sleep.  When your endocrine system isn’t functioning as it should, any one or more of these processes could be interrupted.

Millinocket Regional Hospital partners with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor to bring endocrinology to you right here, at home.  Our endocrinologist, Poonam Khadka, MD, MPH, is on-site every other month to provide the best care to our patients in need of her services.

Services

Endocrinology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and care of diseases related to the endocrine glands, hormones, and metabolism.  Diseases often associated with endocrinology include type 1 and type 2 diabetes; disorders of the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands; and metabolic disorders.
