Rheumatology

Rheumatology is a subspecialty that focuses on joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, and inherited connective tissue disorders.

Millinocket Regional Hospital partners with St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor to bring rheumatology to you right here, at home.  Our rheumatologist, Courtney Corbeil, DO, is on-site every other month to provide the best care to our patients in need of her services.

Services

Rheumatic diseases are conditions of inflammation and auto-immunity.  While there are more than 200 diseases treated by rheumatologists, some of the most common include:

  • Arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis)
  • Lupus
  • Polymyalgia Rheumatica
  • Gout
  • Scleroderma
  • Inflammatory myopathy
  • Osteoperosis
  • Lyme disease
  • Musculoskeletal pain

Rheumatic conditions are typically chronic, constantly evolve, and persist for long periods of time.

If you’re experiencing symptoms of an autoimmune disease, it’s important to see a specialist promptly.  Some rheumatic conditions are more responsive to treatment in their early stages and prompt treatment can reduce the risk of irreversible organ damage.
