Medical Assistant (MA) for Surgical Office

Millinocket Regional Hospital has an opportunity for a full-time Medical Assistant in the surgical office.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Certified Medical Assistant or Maine Licensed (Allied Health). The ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented office while maintaining a positive attitude.  Must be able to multitask and deal effectively with physicians and staff.  Must be able to promote teamwork and possess the ability to function independently within a structured environment.  Computer skills required.  Excellent communication skills required.  Must work closely with staff in surgical offices to assist with patient processing, precertification process, assisting with procedures in the office and any other duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant.

MAIN FUNCTIONS:  Responsible for working closely with the Surgeon to assist with the day-to-day operations of the Surgical Practice.  Responsible for chart preparation prior to the office visit, processing the patient the day of the appointment, ordering lab and Diagnostic Imaging studies as deemed appropriate by the Surgeon, pre-certification of procedures and tests, as well as managing the patient’s follow-up plan.  Will also be able to schedule an appointment if required.  This position may require the MA to work with other providers to include Orthopedics and Specialty Clinics.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  Full-time position, Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 5:00 pm. 36 hours per week.

Sterile Processing Technician & Clinical Support Assistant

Millinocket Regional Hospital has an immediate opening for a Sterile Processing Technician & Clinical Support Assistant.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sterile Processing Technician & Clinical Support Assistant is a dual-function role designed to support both the safe processing of surgical instruments and the direct support of patient care. This individual ensures proper decontamination, sterilization, while also assisting the clinical team with patient rooming, vital signs, and room turnover to maintain smooth patient flow and high-quality care in the Operating Room.

QUALIFICATIONS:                                  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing or willingness to obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Previous healthcare or sterile processing experience preferred.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Proven reliable work experience and attendance.
  • Strong understanding of infection control and sterile technique.
  • Ability to multitask between patient care and instrument processing responsibilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Have good judgement and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sterile Processing Duties:

  • Candidate must demonstrate competence in the entire scope of sterile processing which includes collection, inspection, decontamination, assembly, packaging, labeling, sterilization, distribution and monitoring of instruments and equipment, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process to promote sate surgery.
  • Maintain records of sterilization procedures according to product IFU (Instructions for Use). Inspect, test, and maintain an inventory of all instruments; report instrument damage/malfunction and facilitate repairs.
  • Monitor and safety operate all sterilization equipment.
  • Document required sterility quality assurance testing,
  • Report any compromised in sterility to the OR manager.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical representatives regarding incoming and outgoing instruments and equipment.

Clinical/Patient Care Support Duties:

  • Greet and room patients, ensuring comfort and privacy
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, and other basic patient information.
  • Assist providers and nurses with patient preparation for exams and procedures within scope of certification.
  • Clean and turn over patient rooms between visits, maintaining infection prevention standards.
  • Transport patients and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) within scope of certification.
  • Stock supplies and maintain clean, organized patient care areas.

HOURS OF WORK:

Full-time position, 36 hours per week.
Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Varying Days and Hours depending on need

Specimen Coordinator / Lab Assistant

Your Precision Powers Our Patient Care: Specimen Coordinator / Lab Assistant Needed!

Our community hospital is seeking a dedicated Specimen Coordinator / Lab Assistant to play a crucial role in patient care.  In this position, you’ll be essential in ensuring the accurate and timely handling of specimens, directly contributing to diagnoses and treatment within our collaborative lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:  As a Specimen Coordinator / Lab Assistant, you’ll be vital in the following areas:

  • Performing phlebotomy and collecting specimens from outpatients, inpatients, and ER patients.
  • Managing the send-out section to referral laboratories.
  • Batching send-outs accurately in Meditech.
  • Performing urinalysis dipsticks and rapid tests such as Covid/Influenza/RSV tests.
  • Assisting technicians on weekends with as-needed requests and resolving issues with specimens sent to referral laboratories.
  • Performing other types of testing on a limited basis as needed.

Diagnostic Scheduler

Millinocket Regional Hospital has a Full Time Diagnostic Scheduler.  The main function of this position is to coordinate diagnostic tests and procedures for patients.

Key responsibilities include ensuring accuracy of information on incoming physician orders, scheduling patients in a timely fashion based on the individual order requirements, as well as gathering and verifying patient demographic and insurance information for the purpose of pre-registration of scheduled encounters/appointments.

Qualifications:  High School graduate with ability to communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and hospital employees.  Must excel in guest relations, be conscientious, courteous and a self-starter with ability to analyze and evaluate information and exercise good judgment. Organizational skills, computer skills and multi-tasking a must. Knowledge of order control, medical necessity/ABN, prior authorization requirements, referrals, scheduling and pre-registration, patient preparation preferred.

Laundry Aide

Millinocket Regional Hospital has a Full Time Laundry Aide.  The main function of this position is to provide a continuous supply of clean, sterile, and sanitary linens and garments for patients and staff by collecting soiled items, operating laundry equipment to wash and dry them, and distributing clean items throughout the hospital.

Key responsibilities include sorting linens, tending to washing and drying machines, folding finished items, and maintaining a clean work environment to prevent the spread of infection.  Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.  High School diploma required.

RN Nursing Supervisor | Full-time, Days

Millinocket Regional Hospital has an immediate opening for an RN Nursing Supervisor for the ED, Med/Surg, SCU.

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Responsible for proving leadership, operational oversight, and clinical support for hospital services during assigned shifts. This role ensures safe, high-quality patient care across the Emergency Department, Medical-Surgical unit, and Special Care Unit, while managing staffing, patient flow, and adherence to hospital policies. The RN Nursing Supervisor acts as the administrative representative during off-hours and coordinates with providers, ancillary departments, and senior leadership as needed.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:  

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Licensure in the State of Maine as a Registered Nurse (RN).

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:  

Five (5) years clinical nursing experience preferred. Previous critical care or ER experience strongly preferred. Prior leadership or charge nurse experience required. Broad understanding of patient care processes. Able to manage high stress situations, prioritize based on care needs, delegate appropriately, and effectively multi-task. Must be flexible with work scheduling. Involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – preferred.
  • Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) – preferred.

 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the on-site leader for all clinical and non-clinical operations during assigned shifts.
  • Provide immediate problem-solving and decision-making support for emergent issues in ED, Med/Surg, and SCU.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Act as liaison between nursing staff, physicians, and administration.
  • Monitor patient acuity and ensure appropriate staffing assignments across all units.
  • Support clinical teams in managing high-acuity or complex patient situations.
  • Ensure timely patient admissions, transfers, and discharges to optimize bed availability.
  • Collaborate with providers to prioritize patient care needs and resource allocation.
  • Evaluate staffing levels based on census and acuity; adjust assignments as needed.
  • Authorize call-ins or floating of staff between units to maintain safe ratios.
  • Maintain competency in clinical skills and provide direct patient care when necessary.
  • Lead hospital response for codes, rapid responses, and other emergencies.
  • Serve as primary contact for incident management and escalation during assigned shifts.
  • Ensure appropriate communication and documentation of critical events.
  • Document and report shift activities, staffing changes, and patient flow issues.
  • Assist in enforcing hospital policies and addressing employee concerns or conflicts.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

HOURS OF WORK: 

Full-time, 36 hours per week, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field strongly preferred.

  • Utility Management – Manage and maintain hospital utilities (e.g. Pellet Boiler, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gases).
  • Safety Compliance – Ensure compliance with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, fire safety, elevators) and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Budget Maintenance – Develop and manage the plant operations budget.
  • Staff Supervision – Supervise and train plant operations staff.  Supervise Environmental Services department.
  • Project Management – Manage capital projects, renovations, and construction projects within the hospital.
  • Inventory Management – Manage inventory of supplies, equipment, and parts for plant operations.
  • Vendor Management – Negotiate contracts with vendors and contractors for maintenance and repair services.
  • Problem Solving – Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues and equipment malfunctions.
  • Reporting – Prepare reports on plant operations activities, performance, and budget.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)

Millinocket Regional Hospital, a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital nestled at the base of Mt. Katahdin and Baxter State Park in Northern Maine has an immediate opening to join a three (3) person CRNA team.  Millinocket Regional Hospital serves as the primary care facility for the communities of Millinocket, East Millinocket, Medway and many surrounding communities.

Qualifications:  Must have a current State of Maine RN license and be certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.  Current BCLS/ACLS/PALS certifications are required.  Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to function and remain calm in stressful and emergent situations. Experience with spinals and epidurals preferred. Opportunity to learn ultrasound guided regional blocks.

Duties:  Administers anesthesia to patients of all ages in the operating room and in other patient care areas according to hospital policies and procedures.

There is no anesthesiologist supervision.  Caseload includes bread and butter cases, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, healthy pediatrics, Pain Management, Ophthalmology, Podiatry and Endoscopy.  We currently employ one full time general surgeons, one full time orthopedic surgeon, one part time urologist, one part time Podiatrist, one contracted Pain Management Physician, and one contracted Ophthalmologist.

This salaried position offers a unique schedule.  Week one:  M-F (no call).  Week two:  M-F with call responsibility Monday until the following Monday morning.  Week three:  Off.
