  • Lights of Love Update

By Shelley Farrington   Lincoln News • January 21, 2021

MILLINOCKET – Residents and friends of the Katahdin region proved that a pandemic can stop generosity as Millinocket Regional Hospital Legacy Medical Foundation President Michael Crowley reported that the annual Lights of Love Christmas time fundraiser raised or initiated gifts totaling $24,797.

Crowley went onto say that of that amount, $6,000 will be directed to the new MRH Oncology Center capital construction and the balance dedicated to projects directed by donors. In addition he said nearly 100 loved ones were honored and remembered as part of the project and a list of those names can be found on the MRH website at www.mrhme.org/lightsoflove

This year marked the beginning of a fundraising partnership with Our Katahdin and Crowley said he’s excited to continue to work with them and use its expertise in fundraising into the future.

“Our Katahdin graciously partnered with us to feature this year’s brilliant Love Light Tree, which stood majestically on the Bandstand in Veteran’s Park for all to enjoy throughout the holiday season,” Crowley said. “Though COVID prevented us from hosting a tree lighting celebration, this new, centralized location put the spotlight on our honorees and gave them the chance to shine within an idyllic landmark within our community. Our Katahdin’s support was vital to the success of this year’s event and we are excited to work with them again next year.”

Crowley said everyone looks forward to a time that allows a return to the long-standing tradition hosting an in-person tree lighting ceremony. He said an event that family focused and dedicated to the community is already being planned.

“We have new ideas that we’re excited to implement next year that will bring the community together,” Crowley said. “Legacy Medical Foundation is humbled to receive support for essential projects at Millinocket Regional Hospital. Each gift is a legacy, continuing the long standing tradition of support that began with the hospital’s auxiliary and friends. One hundred percent of every gift is used as promised by the Foundation or as directed by our benefactor donors.”
