MILLINOCKET – A long-serving physician’s assistant in the Millinocket region is leaving to pursue other options.

Katie Mackin, Marketing Director for Millinocket Regional hospital announced that Doug Rhoda, PA-C, is leaving to pursue a career in dermatology.

“Doug has always expressed an interest in dermatology,” Mackin said. “Although this is a huge loss for MRH, we are very excited for him!” she said.

Rhoda has served as a PA-C in the MRH community for the past 19 years. He started in the emergency department in 2001 after working at the Ben Fiske Health Center for six months. He has maintained certificates in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics, and Advanced Trauma Life Support among others. Rhoda has also served the MRH community by filling in at the Walk-in Care Clinic in East Millinocket, as well as doing missions in Guatemala within the past few years.

Shelly Drew, Vice President of Physicians Services, had high praise for Rhoda.

“Doug will certainly be missed. He has been a fantastic member of the ER staff as well as a well-respected employee at MRH,” Drew said. “We wish you all the success in the world, Doug, and hope that you are as successful at this new adventure as you have been in all of your adventures at MRH. Thank you for your hard work and dedication.”

Rhoda is leaving MRH to join the Orono office of Penobscot Valley Dermatology. Ironically, Rhoda was offered the same position eight years ago, but declined it to continue his association with MRH. This time Rhoda accepted the offer and started his new duties on Monday, March 2.
