  • Costumed fun run to “dress up” Millinocket

by Robbie McKay, The Lincoln News

MILLINOCKET – How would you like to take part in a 2K walk/run, wear a costume if you like, and raise money for a worthy cause all at the same time? Soon, you will have the opportunity to do all three at once!

On Saturday, October 28, MRH’s Rehab Department is hosting their annual walk/run, but his year with a twist: it has been shortened to a 2K rather than the usual 5K in order to allow more people to participate. Ryan Whitehouse, a physical therapist with MRH explains.

“Two kilometers is just over a mile. It’s approachable, and it reaches a bigger audience while not excluding our key demographic…the people we serve,” he said. In years past, the event has been a 5K, but this change will enable more people to take part and enjoy the event as well as generating more funds for the cause, which this year is to support programs at the Millinocket Memorial Library.

“The proceeds are all going to the Millinocket Memorial Library. Matt Delaney has a good thing going down there, and is trying to create a community hub with a vast range of services. We’ve not earmarked the money for any specific program to give him some freedom on his end,” said Whitehouse.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. that morning at the White Birch Medical Center. The entry fee is $10 per person with a family “capped” at $15. And, if you wear a costume, the cost is only $5. Participants will start at White Birch Medical Center, run/walk up Mass. Ave all the way to New York St., then turn around and return to the starting point.

Whitehouse also wanted people to know that there will be hot apple cider, candy bags, and perhaps even some baked goods on hand. And with the option of wearing a costume, this 2K walk/run will be a memorable event.

“Show up by 9:00 in the morning on Saturday, October 28th at White Birch Medical Center. Be wearing a costume(if you like). Bring some cash, some friends, and a sense of humor. We’ll have some fun and not overdo ourselves,” Whitehouse said.
