Millinocket Regional Hospital (MRH) is a 25-bed facility with the availability of swing bed and special care services. MRH features a strong, cohesive medical staff of Family Practice, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Nurse Practitioners, Orthopedics and Physician Assistants in full-time practices. Visiting consultants include Cancer Care: Oncology + Hematology, Interventional Pain Management, Podiatry, Radiology, and Urology.

Ambulatory Services

You don’t need to go far from home to get the treatments you need! MRH offers a variety of ambulatory services ranging from management of Rheumatoid Arthritis with Remicade infusions and Boniva injections for Osteoperosis management to Intravenous Immunoglobulin Administration (Ivig).

Anesthesia

We provide a full range of anesthesia services including general, regional, and local anesthesia. We also provide sedation for endoscopic and other minor procedures. Postoperatively, we offer postoperative pain management utilizing the latest techniques including patient controlled analgesia, epidural infusions and regional anesthesia blocks.

Cardiopulmonary

The MRH Cardiopulmonary Department serves both inpatients and outpatients with respiratory or cardiac needs. Some of their services include but are not limited to: EKGs, stress tests, nebulizer treatments, ventilators, assist with changing O2 tanks and overseeing oxygen flowmeters and regulators, take home sleep studies,  and complete pulmonary function testing.  For patients who require a higher level of care, inpatient pulmonary rehab is available through the MRH swing bed program.

Chapman Laboratory

Chapman Lab is an on-site facility offering a variety of services including, but are not limited to:  blood banking, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, serology, body fluid analysis, therapeutic drug monitoring, and bedside glucose monitoring.

Critical Care Transport

For patients requiring critical care, Millinocket Regional Hospital is linked via ground ambulance (70 miles) and Life Flight of Maine air ambulance (25 minutes) to strong tertiary care services in Bangor. Our ability to stabilize and transfer appropriate critical patients to Bangor extends to patients a complete range of healthcare services.

Diabetes Education

MRH’s Diabetes Education Program is a comprehensive program designed to help participants learn how to manage their diabetes with the help of a Diabetes Nurse Educator and a Dietitian. The Diabetes Education Team includes a Diabetes Nurse Educator who assists with insulin adjustment, pump training, and continuous glucose monitoring program and a Dietitian who is responsible for a dietary evaluation. Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology

Millinocket Regional Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Department offers the best in imaging and radiology services.  A sampling of the services we offer includes: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT), 3D Digital Mammography, DEXA Bone Densitometry, and Nuclear Medicine; including Cardiac Studies and Gastric Emptying Exams.

Our Pictoral Archiving Communication System (PACS) is an image storage and distribution system that delivers instantaneous images and allows for manipulation of post-exposure images; resulting in a faster and higher quality diagnosis.  PACS allows these images to be easily distributed to radiologists, physicians, offices, clinics, specialists, and other hospitals or imaging centers.

Emergency Room

Millinocket Regional Hospital operates a state of the art Emergency Department focused on timely and quality care.  Our ED is staffed twenty-four hours every day by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including highly qualified Physician Assistants, supported by on-call physicians, and Registered Nurses who are trained to care for critically ill or injured patients.  If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Millinocket Regional Hospital’s Food Services department provides meals to those who are receiving services as inpatient and clinical outpatients. We cater to both the patient’s diet order as well as food preferences.  Our cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch to the public, Monday through Friday, and is open for a la carte items 24 hours a day.

Infection Control

The Infection Control Department serves all Patient Care and Non Patient Care Services of the hospital, the Medical Staff. The Department of Health, the Community and all patients, their families and visitors. The Infection Control Nurse is available on site 40 hours per week and is available by phone consultation at all other times.

Individuals can meet with our Registered Dietitian, Mark Robinson, to discuss nutrition topics such as balanced healthy eating, weight reduction, or a diet modified for diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, or high cholesterol through Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). MNT includes a review of the patient’s food choices and eating habits, a thorough review of their nutritional health and a personalized nutrition treatment plan. Our interventional pain practice, led by Dr. Jonathan Herland,D.Sc., M.D. and Andrea Sewall, FNP,  is devoted to the diagnosis and targeted treatment of chronic pain that has not responded to conservative treatments, such as physical therapy, manual manipulation or medication.

Physical Therapy

Millinocket Regional Hospital’s Physical Therapy department will help you get back on your feet!  Our physical therapists assist patients with regaining their overall mobility post general injury, traumatic head injury, vascular accident such as a stroke or aneurysm, or post-surgery.  They also work with patients to correct poor postural alignment and manage lymphedema.  Through exercises such as strengthening and stretching, gait/balance training, different types of soft tissue mobilization, aquatic therapies, and modalities like heat, ice, electric stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, iontophoresis, and biofeedback, our PTs will have you back on track in no time!

The foot is a complex structure make up of 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles and tendons. Smoking Cessation

Smoking has long been noted as one of the leading causes of cancer. It is dangerous and will lead to multiple health problems. Thankfully if a person quits smoking in time, many problems will be prevented and some reversed. Our Smoking Cessation program is for the smoker who truly wants to quit for good.

Swing Bed Services

The MRH swing bed program is designed to enable the patient to “swing” from acute care to rehabiliitation level of care during their hospital stay.  While the actual room does not change, the level of care provided does.  Swing bed programs were created as an alternative to prologned acute hospitaliztion or short term nursing facility placement.

Our swing bed program provides physician visits, 24 hour skilled nursing care, and rehabilitation services including physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapy, as well as pharmacy services, dietary consults and additional services as needed.

Urology

Millinocket Regional Hospital offers a variety of urology services provided by John Califano, MD, a general urologist providing both clinical and OR urology services.  Dr. Califano treats a variety of conditions including, but not limited to: lithotripsy (kidney stones), bladder incontinence, benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) or enlarged prostate, bladder cancer, protate cancer, testical abnormalities, cystoscopy and transurethral resection of bladder tumors.

Walk-In Care

MRH Walk-In Care provides timely and cost effective treatment for non-emergent conditions including: cuts, burns, cough, fever or flu, minor stitches, stomach pain, ear aches, infections, etc.  Located at 87 Main Street in East Millinocket, MRH Walk-In Care serves patients five days a week.  Whether you can’t get in to see your Primary Care Physician, or require care after traditional office hours, Walk-In Care is a great alternative!

Patients who need emergency services should dial 9-1-1 or visit the nearest Emergency Department.

Wound Clinic

Proper wound care is imperative to the healing process.  Our Certified Wound Clinic Nurse, Laura Carney, RN, BSN, OMS, WCC, DWC, has been specially trained in wound care, diabetic wounds, and ostomy care and offers a variety of interventions ranging from advanced dressings to negative pressure wound therapy to ostomy evaluation, management, and education.

The MRH Wound Care clinic is overseen by MRH’s Chief Medical Officer, David Kearing, MD.  Ask your Primary Care Provider if a referral is right for you.
